Free Gift Inside

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

“Do you know what will happen to you if you die tonight?”

That was the question the girl who sat by me asked. It was my first dorm Bible study at the University of Illinois.

At the time, I pictured God as an old man with a huge scale like the kind you see in pharmacies. I thought He would put the good things and the bad things in my life on that scale and, if the good outweighed the bad, I would go to heaven.

How wrong I was! I never knew the truth until Susie told me that my eternal future all depended on whether or not I had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I did not know that heaven was a free gift absolutely no one could earn or deserve. I did not understand I had to admit I was a sinner and accept Jesus, who died on the Cross to pay for my sins.

When I asked Him into my heart, Susie said I would receive the free gift of eternal life. I did, and life has been so amazing ever since.

If you have not yet made your eternal future certain, why wait? Jesus is only a prayer away. Simply tell Him you are sorry for your sins and you want to accept His sacrifice on the Cross to pay for them. Then, find a Christian friend and tell her about your decision. She will help you learn even more and help you find a good church to attend.

One more thing: Don’t think it will always be easy, this Christian life. It won’t. But, it is truly WONDERFUL!
