Do You Struggle With Depression?

“You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand” (Psalm 16:11, NIV).

Depression has always been a battle in my life. Many mornings, I wake up feeling miserable and sad. For me, depression comes and goes, varying by the day or hour.

Sometimes depression results from anger turned inward. When we are taught as children that anger is wrong, we hold our anger inside, and we can get depressed.

Depression can also be a chemical problem, a disease that can be cured with medicine and doctor’s help.

Some of the things that have helped me fight depression are listening to praise and worship music, exercising, visiting friends and getting a good night’s sleep. The activity that helps me the most, however, is concentrating on the promises God gives me in His Word.

If you have suicidal thoughts, get professional advice as quickly as possible.

If you are often sad, try some of the things I’ve suggested. Depression is not a sin, but it is not how God wants us to live our lives either. God wants us to have joy.

I know I am going to get better. So are you!
