Revere the Lord

“But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.” Habakkuk 2:20

Meditation: Mankind and even Christians who have experienced redemption and forgiveness, often do not realize how awesome God truly is. God, our God is the Creator of the universe, a universe unimaginably gargantuan! Yet, mankind attempts to mold God into our image – the image of who or what we think He should be. We civilized human beings may not create idols and carve images of God, but how often do we put other things before Him? How often to we make our achievements, careers, cars, toys, gadgets, our time and even our relationships idols that take the place of God?

Woe to the man who thinks the stuff of this world can give him fulfillment or peace. There is no breath or life in idols, but there is a God who sits in His holy temple. Let us be silent before Him. Let us revere the Lord as the great and awesome God He is. According to Nelson’s Bible Dictionary, reverence is awe and respect. Our worship should come out of our reverence for God. We have nothing without Him, and we are nothing without Him. He gives life and rules universes, yet we tend to treat the Lord as our Buddy in Heaven. We should revere the Lord as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Silence may be our best attitude as we reflect on His greatness.

Challenge: Are you ever silent before the Lord out of reverence of His awesomeness? Do you revere the Lord? Or do you tend to let the stuff of life and the world crowd Him out of your daily life? Give the Lord your God the glory and reverence due His name. Praise Him for all He has done for you.

Thought for the Day: Lord, help me to revere you always, to walk daily in awe and respect of Your greatness.
