Put Your Hope in God

We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.  In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you. Psalms 33:20-22

Meditation: Men tend to put their hope in things they can see. It may be trusting in one’s own abilities, talents, or strength. Or they may put their trust in their job, savings accounts, retirement funds, insurance, government or other people. They may even put their trust in their church. But all of these things are the wrong places to put one’s trust. Human endeavor and human institutions will fail.  In God and God alone is where men need to place their trust and hope. He is their help and shield. He will take care of His people in times of trouble.

The Lord will never let us down. We can trust in His Holy Name. As we put our hope in Him, we will receive His unfailing love. We have to trust that God is in control even though situations are not resolved the way we think they should be resolved. Natural disasters, crime, and disease are rampant in this fallen world. People, good and evil, are affected by them every day. Too often, we spend our time wondering why and attempting to find reasons for problems we (or others) suffer. The Lord wants us to remain focused on Him and to put our hope in Him. When we trust in the Lord, we can rejoice and praise Him in any circumstances, not for the circumstances, but because we trust in Him.

Challenge: Do you put your hope in the Lord? Do you trust Him in all circumstances or do you tend to trust in yourself, things, or others? Wait in hope for the Lord; rejoice in Him and trust Him in every aspect of your life.

Thought for the Day: Lord, You are my help and my shield. I put my hope in You and You alone. I rejoice because You are worthy of my trust.
