Is God Really Dead?

It has been said that atheism is the end result of a discouraged life. Yet no one dies as an atheist, for they must meet their Maker. When they stand before Him, they are no longer atheists. Thankfully, most of the world’s populace does believe in a Supreme Being. There are comparatively few atheists because there are so few totally deluded human beings in the world. To claim to be an atheist is often only a smoke screen for spiritual cowardice. Atheists can be compared to children who whistle when they must walk in the dark in order to pretend not to be afraid. Bigots and racists make the best atheists, for in their own minds, they will never have to account to anyone for their prejudicial views. In fact, atheists feel that they will never have to account to God for anything because they believe there is no God to account to. Because of this flawed thinking, atheists are usually humanist and evolutionists.

A maxim often quoted is that “there are no atheists in the foxholes” indicating most people will resort to prayer when facing grave danger or imminent death. But few atheists are so atheistic that a real threat of death will not compel them to acknowledge a divine power.

Atheists maintain that believers must prove that God really exists. But the impossibility of proving that God does not exist actually proves His existence. In fact, mankind cannot discover God: He must reveal Himself to man. He has done this by sending His only begotten Son to die for our sins on the cross.

But if God is really dead, I have three questions:

1. Who identified the deceased?
2. Who wrote His obituary?
3. Why has no one come forward to claim the remains?
4. Why was I, as His next of kin, not notified?

The atheist asks, “Where is God?” The real question is, “Where is God not?” To believe in God is to accept the fact that world really does make sense after all. He who leaves God out of His calculations has a defective calculator. Even avowed atheists want God on their side—if He did happen to exist after all. One is quoted as saying,

“No matter how I search and prod,
I simply cannot believe in God.
But all that matters (should He be)
Is that He absolutely believes in me!”

The truth is really simple. God so loved the world that He sent His only Son, so that anyone who believes in Him will have eternal life (John 3:16). All atheistic thinking will vanish when one meets Jesus personally.
