The Holy Spirit: Fifty Personality Traits

Imagine having a perfect friend who will always tell you the absolute truth, who never makes a mistake, and always has your best interest at heart. Such is the precious Holy Spirit of God. Here are a few of His dynamic characteristics.

<> He adopts. “You have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry Abba, Father.”  Romans 8:15

<> He affirms. “You were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.”  Ephesians 1:13

<> He provides access. “We have access by one Spirit to the Father.”  Ephesians 2:18

<> He anoints. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings.”    Isaiah 61:1;  Luke 4:18

<> He comforts. “The churches were edified, walking in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.”  Acts   9:31; John 14:16; John 15:26; John 16:7

<> He convicts. “When He is come, He will convict the world of sin.” John 16:8;      Genesis 6:3

<> He commissions. “The Lord God and His Spirit hath sent me.”  Isaiah 48:16;      Acts 13:2; Acts 20:28

<> He interprets dreams.  “Let Daniel be called and he will show the interpretation.”  Daniel 5:12

<> He discerns. “To another is given the discerning of spirits.”  I Cor. 12:10

<> He defends. “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”  Isaiah 59:19

<> He is sacred. “Whoever blasphemes the Holy Ghost never will be forgiven.”      Mark 3:29

<> He empowers. “You shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you.”  Acts 1:8; Romans 15:13; Micah 3:8

<> He gives gifts. “God bearing them witness with gifts of the Holy Spirit.”

<> He invites. “The Spirit and the bride say Come.”  Revelation 22:17

<> He judges.  “The Lord shall purge…by the Spirit of judgment.”  Isaiah 4:4

<> He gives love. “The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.”    Romans 5:5

<> He is omnifarious.  (capable of great diversity)  Acts 21:11

<> He is omnipotent. (all-powerful)  Luke 1:35

<> He preaches. “….those who have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven.”  I Peter 1:12

<> He is a prophet. “Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”  Mark 12:36; Acts 1:16

<> He purges. “The Lord shall purge Jerusalem by the Spirit of Judgment and by the Spirit of burning.”  Isaiah 4:4

<> He is productive. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…”  Gal. 5:22-23

<> He restrains.  “They were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach in Asia.” Acts 16:6-7

<> He regenerates.  “He that raised Jesus from the dead will also quicken your mortal bodies through the Holy Spirit.”  Romans 8:11-13

<> He sanctifies. “You are sanctified by the Spirit of our God.”  II Thess. 2:13;      Romans 15:16

<> He imparts Scripture. “The Word of God came…by holy men of God, prompted by the Holy Spirit.”  II Peter 1:21
