Imagine having a perfect friend who will always tell you the absolute truth, who never makes a mistake, and always has your best interest at heart. Such is the precious Holy Spirit of God. Here are a few of His dynamic characteristics.

<> He adopts. “You have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry Abba, Father.”  Romans 8:15

<> He affirms. “You were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.”  Ephesians 1:13

<> He provides access. “We have access by one Spirit to the Father.”  Ephesians 2:18

<> He anoints. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings.”    Isaiah 61:1;  Luke 4:18

<> He comforts. “The churches were edified, walking in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.”  Acts   9:31; John 14:16; John 15:26; John 16:7

<> He convicts. “When He is come, He will convict the world of sin.” John 16:8;      Genesis 6:3

<> He commissions. “The Lord God and His Spirit hath sent me.”  Isaiah 48:16;      Acts 13:2; Acts 20:28

<> He directs. “The Spirit said to Philip, “Go……”  Acts 8:29; Rom. 8:14

<> He interprets dreams.  “Let Daniel be called and he will show the interpretation.”  Daniel 5:12

<> He discerns. “To another is given the discerning of spirits.”  I Cor. 12:10

<> He defends. “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”  Isaiah 59:19

<> He is sacred. “Whoever blasphemes the Holy Ghost never will be forgiven.”      Mark 3:29

<> He empowers. “You shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you.”  Acts 1:8; Romans 15:13; Micah 3:8

<> He is promised.  “Tarry in Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”  Luke 24:49
 
<> He gives freedom. “The law of the Spirit of life has made me free from the law of sin and death.”  Romans 8:2; II Cor. 3:17

<> He guides. “I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes.”  Ezekiel 36:27; Matthew 4:1; Acts 13:4; John 16:13-14

<> He is a gift. “The Father will give the good gift of the Holy Spirit to those who ask   Him.”  Luke. 11:13; John 7:37-39; Acts 2:38; Acts 4:6; Acts 8:18; I Thess. 4:8

<> He gives gifts. “God bearing them witness with gifts of the Holy Spirit.” 
I Cor. 12:4-11

<> He is holy. “Receive ye the Holy Spirit.”  John 20:22

<> He is humble. “He will not speak of Himself.”  John 16:13-14

<> He intercedes. “The Spirit makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”  Romans 8:26; Jude 20

<> He indwells. “The Spirit of truth…..shall be in you.”  John 14:17; Acts 2:4; Eph. 5:18

<> He invites. “The Spirit and the bride say Come.”  Revelation 22:17

<> He judges.  “The Lord shall purge…by the Spirit of judgment.”  Isaiah 4:4

<> He gives joy.  “...having received the Word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit.”  I Thess. 1:6; Acts 13:52; Rom. 14:17; Gal. 5:22

<> He gives love. “The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.”    Romans 5:5

<> He gives life. “I shall put my Spirit in you and you shall live.”  Ezekiel 37:14;      II Cor. 3:6; John 6:63

<> He performs miracles.  “God bearing them witness with, sign, wonders, and gifts of the Holy Spirit.”  Heb 2:4; Acts 8:39

<> He mentors.  “The Holy Spirit, which the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things.”  John 14:16; John 14:26; I John 2:27
 
<> He is omnifarious.  (capable of great diversity)  Acts 21:11

<> He is omnipresent.   (present everywhere at the same time)  Psalm 139:7

<> He is omniscient.   (all-wise; of infinite understanding and insight)  I Cor. 2:10

<> He is omnipotent. (all-powerful)  Luke 1:35

<> He preaches. “....those who have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven.”  I Peter 1:12

<> He is a prophet. “Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”  Mark 12:36; Acts 1:16

<> He purges. “The Lord shall purge Jerusalem by the Spirit of Judgment and by the Spirit of burning.”  Isaiah 4:4

<> He is productive. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…”  Gal. 5:22-23

<> He reveals. “The Spirit of truth will show you things to come.”  John 16:13-14;    Luke 2:26; I Cor. 2:10-11; Acts 15:28

<> He renews. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done…but by the       renewing of the Holy Spirit.”  Titus 3:5; John 3:5-8
 
<> He is a resource.  “He will bring to your remembrance all that I have taught you.”  John 14:26

<> He restrains.  “They were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach in Asia.” Acts 16:6-7

<> He regenerates.  “He that raised Jesus from the dead will also quicken your mortal bodies through the Holy Spirit.”  Romans 8:11-13

<> He sanctifies. “You are sanctified by the Spirit of our God.”  II Thess. 2:13;      Romans 15:16

<> He searches . ...“the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.” 
I Cor. 2:10; Romans 8:27

<> He gives strength. “Uphold me with your free Spirit.” Psalm 51:12; Eph. 3:16-17

<> He teaches. “The Holy Spirit will teach you…  Luke 12:12; I Cor. 2:13

<> He testifies. “The Spirit of truth…..shall testify about Me.”  John 15:26; I John 4:2
   
<> He unifies. “Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”  Ephesians 4:3; Philippians 2:1-2

<> He is a witness. “We are witnesses, as is also the Holy Spirit.”  Acts 5;32;  Rom. 8:16; Romans 9:1; Hebrews 10:15

<> He imparts Scripture. “The Word of God came…by holy men of God, prompted by the Holy Spirit.”  II Peter 1:21
