Lord, Guard and Guide Those Who Fly

Lord, Guard and Guide Those Who Fly

                        – Mary Hamilton, 1915

Lord, guard and guide those who fly,
Through the great spaces of the sky;
Be with them traversing the air
In darkening storms – or sunshine fair.

Thou who doth keep with tender might
Your gifted birds in every flight;
Thou of the tempered winds be near
That, having Thee, they know no fear.

Control their minds with instinct fit,
What time, adventuring, they quit
The firm security of land;
Grant skillful eye and steady hand.

Aloft in the quietude of space,
Uphold them with they saving grace.
Lord, protect each person that will fly
Through lonely ways beneath the sky.
