Dream a Little Dream

“I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart” (Psalm 40:8).

My friend Katie grew up in a very poor family. Her house had electricity, but no running water. There were too many children for any to go to college. But Katie dreamed of being a doctor; she wanted to be able to take away people’s pain.

In Katie’s poverty-stricken culture, it was common to marry early and have children right away. Early on, her husband lost his job. Katie now had to find a way to feed her child, and to somehow support her younger brothers and sisters, too. At some point, Katie became a Christian.
God began to open doors for Katie to fulfill her dream.

Katie made friends with a missionary woman who offered to teach her scientific massage. People in pain began to seek Katie out. She had so much success rate with her clients that she began to teach massage classes to students at a local prep school.

One day Katie said to me, “Isn’t it amazing? I used to want to be a doctor. I have always wanted to take people’s pain away. Even though I have many obligations to my family and little education, God has fulfilled my dream of relieving others’ pain. I may not be a doctor but I can make people feel better!”

Never limit what God can do in your life with what you think is a little dream. The Bible says that He gives us the desires of our hearts. He will remember.
