Bible Facts

You cannot benefit from a Bible you do not obey. Jessie James carried a well-marked New Testament in his pocket constantly, proving that just reading it will not save you. The solution is not in Bible reading but in Bible application. Read your Bible until it falls apart. A Bible that is falling apart is usually owned by a person who is not.

Let’s look at a few Biblical statistics:

<> The Bible was written over a period of 1,600 years by forty authors and in three languages, yet it is one single book. Despite what we hear about the best-seller list, the Bible always outsells every other book every year.

<> There are 365 “Fear Nots” in the Bible – one for every day of the year.

<> There are 850 direct Old Testament quotations in the New Testament.

<> In the four Gospels, Jesus directly quotes the Old Testament 66 times from 22 different books.

<> Matthew’s gospel quotes or alludes to Old Testament passages over 100 times from twenty different books.

<> The word “Lord” appears 1,853 times in the Bible. The word “Jehovah” appears 6,855 times. But the word “Reverend” appears only once (Psalm 111:9).

<> There are over 250 different titles given to Jesus in the Word of God.

<> In the New Testament, the word “Jesus” appears 973 times – an average of five times for each chapter.

<> Jesus’ resurrection is mentioned 104 times in the New Testament.

<> In the 66 books of the King James Version, there are 3,586,483 letters, 773,693 words, 31,373 verses and 1,188 chapters.

<> The central verse of the Bible is Psalm 118:8, which reads, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.”

<> The Bible contains over 30,000 promises. That is about 82 promises for every day of the year.

No one can master the Bible but we must allow it to master us. Read the Bible through this new year. But remember, it is not how often you get into God’s Word; it is how often you let His Word get into you. The Book you will want for a pillow when you are dying is the one you want to study while you are living.
